As an 81 year old g.grandma it saddens me deeply not only to hear racially driven comments, that is bad enough, but to use Christianity to support bigotry and prejudice is a betrayer to the Lord you profess to worship. We in the UK have looked on with interest on the recent election of Barak Obama (did it really have to take 21 months?) and are really indifferent as to the colour of his skin while reconising that this is a wake up call for a lot of Americans, but are confused as to the fundemental differences between the policies of the Democratic Party and the ruling Republican Party and how the Democrats now intend to change the standing of the USA in the eyes of the world. Can someone please encapsulate this in a nutshell?

16. As a US citizen it deeply saddens me to see how many Racist people are still alive and kicking in these days. President Barack Obama is not only black/ muslim. He is Educated , Well Spoken and most importantly he is Qualified. It just happens that he is a Black man! Barack Obama was sent from God to help America in these hard times and We are ready for change. He is more Qualified that Asshole Bush and McCain put together so how do you explain that. You need to open your eyes and look pass the color of this mans skin and realize that this is what America needs we gave Bush 8 years and all the did was use our hardworking money for God knows what! Susan, what are you afraid of? The man elected is a Christian, believes that christ is the son of god. He has a family, wife and children, isn't going to do anything to hurt them. He may govern differently then you would like but lets face it, which is the right way. Relax a little , enjoy life as best you can.

Graham from UK. How to do it briefly? My interpration . Platforms of both parties are similar though rarly followed but filled with good things. Democrats, more diverse party , more open to minoritys, more liberal in their views, reputation to more willing to spend $ for social improvements.
Modern leaders: Roosevelt, Truman, Carter, Clinton, Kennedy.Seem to be less afraid of change and and trying something new. Less set in their beliefs.
Republicans : Known as more conservative, arent known for liking change, many of their followers are very set in their ways, little wiggle room, their way or the highway, looks upon things in Black and White, not grey. Don't like to compromise , unless it favors them . Very strong Idioligical, more apt to go down with the ship, rather then give up their views, especially moral ones. known as fiscaly more conservative, don't spend if don't have it . Less diverse in their membership. Has been known to attract more of the wealthy and well off vs the Democrats.
This is a bried summation from my view points. With in the partys, you are going to have extremes in both. From the Democrats , true way to the left, way out there, less so to the right. The Democrats do have their wealthy supporters, I believe those who are very socially awarem and more of the newrich vs older wealth.
Republicans also has their mix, way , way to the right and then to the middle , little left.
Understand this is my view , very short, much more to it, but a laymans feeling of why he /she is in one party or the other besides what their Daddys did.
Let me close. In college , got into political discussion with Govt professor before Xmass break. i went home asked my Dad wwhat party he feels he is part of. He said , i am not that educated that well, but I always my best years were with the Democrats in power, and my worse when the Republicans were in power.
Went back to school after the break and in same class, mentioned hat to the professor.
I remember the professor stroking his face, little smile and say " Your old man is a pretty smart guy isn't he "
Hope this novel is a help to yo and trust me it is my opinion only and others will be all over me here, but from my perspective this is a lot of what moves me to one side over the other. { Still important of what the one running ones look like too , lol}

19. Before I do any cartwheels, backflips or give some alla lalla-lujahs or hallelujahs(I don't know if he is muslim or Christian) I want to see exactly what he will do for America, beside talk. I will also look for the new president and wife to salute the flag, as other Americans, of the country he will now preside over. I also hope he will forget about changing our National anthem. As for other changes I wish him well and hope they will be changes that help us all.
