Searching For All Things Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is definitely my favorite holiday. I get to eat a lot without making any excuses and I don't have to worry about buying presents for the event or trying to stay awake when the ball drops at midnight.

This year, I'll be hosting Thanksgiving and the pressure is on! First of all, hosting a dinner party is a rare occasion for me since I don't cook much. Secondly, I'll be feeding eight people and my dining table only seats four people. I think it's time for me to buy a new dining table. Despite the pressure, I can't wait for Thanksgiving since I love entertaining, I get to see my family and I finally get to use my fine China!

For this holiday of thanks and feast, AOL Search has put together a useful list of links to help you with your Thanksgiving planning. Just search for Thanksgiving and check out the One Click feature for useful and fun Thanksgiving resources. Happy searching!

Did You Pre-Order 'Harry Potter' Book 7 Yet?

If you're a true Potterhead, you probably pre-ordered 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' the day it was available for pre-order. I remember checking out an online bookstore where this book made the number top selling book that week, just from people who pre-ordered the book.

I myself pre-ordered the book the day it was available for pre-order, of course! After I went to see 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix' this past weekend, I re-read 'Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince' (that's book 6 to you non-Potterheads) to get myself ready for the final book. I know, I'm such a nerd!

If you still haven't pre-ordered the book yet, not to worry. I believe you still have time -- at least that's what a lot of online bookstores have claimed. If you're into bargain shopping and you want to compare prices on the book, just search for 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' on AOL Search. You'll see our One Click feature where you see a list of online retail stores for price comparison:

Or, maybe you prefer to stand in line at the bookstore on the d-day? I know it's summer and the weather is probably going to be nice, but I prefer to shop conveniently from my own home. When I pre-ordered book 6, I received it the day it came out. So on July 21st, I'll be staying home and reading the final book. I just hope Harry doesn't die!

Check out more searches on 'Harry Potter' on our Hot Searches blog -- you won't believe what #6 is. Are these people serious?

Searching for Movie Showtimes

I can't wait until next weekend! You know it ... 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix' will be out in theaters on Wednesday, July 11th. I think I'll wait until the weekend to watch it, hopefully the crowd won't be too crazy then.

Another movie in my list to watch this summer is 'Transformers.' I know there are a lot of new movies coming out this summer, but I'm cheap when it comes to movies. I want to make sure that my $10 ticket and my $15 snacks are completely worth it.

If you need some ideas on what to watch this weekend, check out our top searched movies from yesterday on our Hot Searches blog.

Search tip: Search for movies or movie showtimes on AOL Search and you'll find movie listings in your local theaters:

If you haven't used AOL Search before, or if you didn't save your zip code from previous searches, just enter your zip code:

Have fun at the movies this weekend!

AOL Search Returns the Safest Results

For the 2nd time in a row, AOL Search is named the search engine that returns the safest results by McAfee. Okay, there's no formal award ceremony or anything, but this is great! Big kudos to our Product team :-)

McAfee used its SiteAdvisor's automated Web site ratings to assess Google, Yahoo!, MSN, AOL, and Ask on the safety of these five search engines' search results. Results were released just last week as a follow up study to their December 2006 release. In both studies, AOL returns the safest search results.

So in case you didn't know, AOL Search defaults its search results to SafeSearch. You can check to see if your SafeSearch is on or not by looking at the status below the search box. You can go to your Preferences page or just do a search on AOL Search to get there:

Happy Searching!

Searching for May Sweeps

I don't know about you, but I've been glued to my TV every night. With the May sweeps, I can't wait to watch the season finales on Tivo! Who wants to come to the office the next day and hear the spoilers? I admit, I've done it to others, so I'll be good and keep my mouth shut this time.

Anyway, if you're looking for TV show recaps, photos, episode previews or anything else about your favorite shows, you can find more than just going to the official TV show sites. Here are some search tips when searching for a TV show -- Search for 'Dancing with the Stars' and you'll see:

One Click
You'll see a picture, a snippet about the show and additional links to Episode Guide and Photos.
AOL Search One Click results for Dancing with the Stars

Image, News and Audio Search
To see only images, news and audio search results for the show, just click on the appropriate tabs right above the search box.

Yeah, that's right -- click on 'Images' to see image search results and 'News' to see news search results. To see audio search results for the show, click on 'more >>' and then 'audio.'
